About this document

What it is for, what UAE law expects and when to ask a lawyer instead.

What is a Power of Attorney?

A document by which a person or company (the principal) authorises another person (the attorney) to act in its name. In the UAE it is used for company formation, property, banking and court matters.

Notarisation is required

A UAE power of attorney must be signed before a Notary Public (or attested at a UAE embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if signed abroad) and, for Arabic use, legally translated. This document prepares the wording; the notary attests the signature.

Keep it narrow

List the exact acts and set an expiry date. Banks and authorities accept a special power far more readily than a general one.
